Around the World in 60 Rums – Martinique

Each month we’ll explore a different rum producing country, sampling five rums from as many distilleries and/or indie bottlers as we can to get as broad a representation from each country as possible. We’ll include as many different styles as possible to highlight different production methods, age statements, cask types, price points, and (dare we say it) terriors to really get a feel for each national style.
This month we’ll feature Martinique! Home to Rhum Agricole – a style of rum made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice as opposed to molasses. Agricoles are known for being citrussy, grassy and vegetal when young, with more cask influence as it ages, and must follow strict AOC regulations. We’ll dive into the history and why Martinique rums are different from everywhere else, while sampling five different drams. Santé!
